Privacy, in plain language.

Cirey has no developer-operated runtime server. The most sensitive information — your books, progress, notes, page captures, and Study Cards — stays on your device or in Apple services you choose to use.

Your personal library

Your library is stored in a protected SQLite database on your device. If you enable iCloud features, Apple synchronises supported records through your private CloudKit database and invitation-only shared zones. We do not operate that personal-library database.

Sign in and profile

Cirey requires Sign in with Apple and asks for your name, never your email. An opaque Apple user identifier stays in the device Keychain to keep you signed in and to let Apple confirm that access remains authorised. Your chosen display name and optional, metadata-stripped profile photo stay in protected app storage and an encrypted field in your private CloudKit database when iCloud is available.

Camera and text recognition

Cover, ISBN, and page recognition run with Apple frameworks on your device. Page images are held only for recognition and review, then discarded.

Book catalogue requests

Searches use a read-only public catalogue in the app publisher’s Apple CloudKit container. A query, confirmed ISBN, or user-confirmed text recognised on device is sent only to CloudKit to return public book metadata. The released app does not call Open Library, Google Books, or another third-party book API.

Analytics, advertising, and tracking

There are no advertising SDKs, cross-app identifiers, website analytics, tracking pixels, or behavioural profiles in Cirey or on this website.

Sharing

Shared shelves are private and invitation-only. Owners choose view-only or collaborative book-list access. Cirey has no public profiles, followers, public feed, comments, or direct-message system. People you invite can see only the public book metadata explicitly placed in that shelf and the owner’s bounded optional reading status — not private notes, highlights, session history, or statistics.

Your controls

The app includes export and delete controls. Deleting the app removes its local database, subject to your device backups. iCloud records can be deleted from the in-app Privacy Centre.

No cookies, no analytics. This site sets no cookies, loads no third-party scripts, embeds no fonts from other servers, and runs no analytics, tag manager, or tracking pixel of any kind. There is nothing to consent to, which is why you are not being asked to.

Hosting and server logs. The site is served by Cloudflare, which necessarily processes your IP address in order to deliver and secure the page, along with the usual request data: the page requested, the time, the referring page, and your browser and operating system. This is technically unavoidable for any website. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR — the legitimate interest in delivering a working, secure site. Cloudflare operates a global network, so data may be processed outside the European Union under the safeguards Cloudflare provides for such transfers.

Retention. Log data is kept only as long as needed to operate and secure the site, and is not combined with anything else or used to build a profile. Nothing on this site identifies you as a person.

Your rights. Under the GDPR you may request access to your data (Art. 15), correction (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), portability (Art. 20), and you may object to processing based on legitimate interest (Art. 21). Write to the address above. You also have the right to complain to a supervisory authority (Art. 77) — for us that is ⟨zuständige Landesdatenschutzbehörde⟩.

Buying the app. Purchases happen in the App Store. Apple is the seller and handles payment, invoicing, and any refund; we never see your payment details, your address, or your Apple Account. Apple’s own privacy policy governs that part.
